Create your own payment form using RO Payments

RO Payments has its own payment page, so you can receive payments without any other extension, for example for:

  • donations;
  • paying an invoice;
  • a contribution or membership fee.

Create the menu item

  1. Go to Menus and click the menu you want to add the page to
  2. Click New
  3. For Menu Item Type select RO Payments -> Payment page
  4. Enter a Menu Title, for example Donate
  5. Select the Profile to pay with
  6. Click Save & Close

Each payment page has its own profile, so you can have a donation page with one payment provider and an invoice page with another.

Also create a menu item for the result page, see Installation.

The payment form

The form has three required fields:

  • Email
  • Amount, with a comma or a period for the decimals
  • Remark, a description of the payment

Visitors who are not logged in also see the captcha of the site, when one is set in the Global Configuration.

The customer clicks Send money and goes to the payment provider. The payment provider decides which payment methods the customer can choose from.

The order number

When the address of the page has an order_number, the form shows a read-only Order Number field with that value, for example:

https://example.com/donate?order_number=2026-0042

Without it, RO Payments numbers the payments itself. Use {ORDERNR} in the payment description of the profile to show the order number on the bank statement of the customer.

Filled in or sent at once

The fields can be filled in from the address of the page, and the customer can go to the payment provider at once. See Initiate payment from an external link.

The payments

The payments made on the payment page are listed in Components -> RO Payments -> Payment page, with their email address, amount, remark and result. Their transaction log is in Transactions.

The look of the form

Change the form with a template override:

  1. Go to System -> Site Templates and click the details and files of your template
  2. Click Create Overrides
  3. Under Components click com_ropayments -> pay
  4. Edit the default.php file in html/com_ropayments/pay of your template

Keep the fields user_email, amount and remark in the form. The override stays in place when you update RO Payments.

Acting on payments

The payment page does not update another extension. To do something after a payment, for example create an account or send the data to another system, write a plugin for the onPaymentComplete event, see A list of RO Payment plugin triggers.
