Hi Tharuna,

We are continuing to export existing products and import them with changes as needed.
One issue is annoying and I cannot find how to fix this on the support forums or documentation.

When we export Virtuemart products with short and full descriptions, this often makes the export file unreadable.
If our description contains quotation marks, this causes us issues. When trying to open the csv file with Excel using the Load Data from Text/CSV, the column ordering is broken after the quotation marks in the first product description field in the export file.

How do we ignore the quotation marks, or html tables, or other characters in our product descriptions when exporting?
I also tried opening the export as a text file in Excel, where the wizard allows you to choose the delimiter, but I cannot seem to find anywhere to add a custom text enclosure if I try using one.

Usually we use a custom delimiter like ^ but I am not sure how to work around the quotation marks and other characters in the product descriptions.
I created a multireplace rule to replace the quotes for the product description field, but this didn't seem to work either.

Can you point me in the right direction please? I will add more info if needed.
Would using Open Office make a difference - is it a Excel issue?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hello Aaron,

Please check document Removing HTML tags on export. The document explains on creating RO CSVI Multi replace rule to replace HTML characters on export.

Usually we use a custom delimiter like ^ but I am not sure how to work around the quotation marks and other characters in the product descriptions.

In your export template settings on File tab set Text enclosure field to ^ the enclosure character you are using for export. Save the template and run the export.

Try the rule and text enclosure settings, your export file should work in both Excel and in Open office.

Let me know on how that goes.
Kind regards,

Tharuna
