I am moving a site from one hosting company to another. I am doing a clean install to get rid of all the junk accumulated over the years. I've updated the old site to Joomla 3.10.10 and installed the same on the new site. I was hoping to use RO CSVI to export the articles and convert K2 items and import them into the new site. But when I install RO CSVI on the old site, I get the message that the plugin is activated, but a warning: "Could not record the package ID for this package's extensions." I do not see the RO CSVI under the "Components." I have also installed it in the new Joomla site, and I do see it there. I have tried exporting the "content" from phpMyAdmin from the old site, but it times out when I attempt to import it (csv) on the new site.

The articles are not so numerous that I could not replicate them manually on the new site, but it makes me cry to think of manually converting the almost 1500 K2 items.

Hello Patti,
I did run the solution for categories and that did enable me to export the categories and import them into the new site.

Not sure why but language field was empty instead of *.

The export does now work, but when I try to import the K2 items export csv into the new site, I get this

That is because you have set wrong Component and Operation on Details tab. See attached screenshot. I have changed it to K2 component and Item operation. Your import should work now. Please check.

Hello,
I was hoping to use RO CSVI to export the articles and convert K2 items and import them into the new site.

Yes you can use RO CSVI to export K2 items and import them as Joomla articles.

I get the message that the plugin is activated, but a warning: "Could not record the package ID for this package's extensions." I do not see the RO CSVI under the "Components."

What if you try to install RO CSVI package again? You see the same error?

I have tried exporting the "content" from phpMyAdmin from the old site, but it times out when I attempt to import it (csv) on the new site.

Exporting from RO CSVI is not same as exporting from PHPMyAdmin. You cannot export data from all related K2 tables when export from PHPMyAdmin. You need to solve the installation problem so you can export using RO CSVI and import them as Joomla articles.

The articles are not so numerous that I could not replicate them manually on the new site, but it makes me cry to think of manually converting the almost 1500 K2 items.

We will help you to solve the installation problem so you can easily move the 1500 items :)
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello Patti,
Tried installation on your site but it failed. Uninstall does nothing to the extension. But you can use RO CSVI using the direct link and it works. That should help you to get the data using RO CSVI export. Use the below link to access RO CSVI.

Thank you. I'm a little confused about adding fields, but I added all that I thought pertinent to what I use (I don't have any extra fields outside normal Joomla options). But then when I tried to run it, I got a message that said RO CSVI had not found a valid domain name in your global settings. Go to Global Settings and set a valid domain ..." But when I click the link and add the domain, it doesn't stick upon saving. Showing screen shots below.

Hello Patti,
You are seeing that error with global config because of broken RO CSVI installation. I have added your site URL to code so the error is gone with export. Export runs now. Please remember any update to RO CSVI extension will overwrite the changes.

Run the export and let me know.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

OK, thanks so much! After a couple of tries I was able to export Joomla articles from the old site and into the new site. My main problem seems to be in selecting fields to use. I know that I'm just a newbie at this, but it seems like it would be easier for people like me just to have an option to make one selection that would automatically include all standard Joomla article fields. But being able to see the debug log helped me figure out what was missing to finally get it.

Now I'm moving on to the K2 categories and items. There again, I have not used any extra fields to complicate matters. Even though I have added all possible fields to the export template, I get an error message that says "Cannot load the category path for category ID X and language." See attachment. I found the "id" by checking the box in the quick add area to show ID fields and added that but I get the same error.

I'm so sorry that I have had to take up so much of your time. Thank you for your help.

I spoke too soon about the Joomla articles. I spent some time this afternoon copying over some modules and just now started to get into connecting articles to menus. There's no content in the Joomla articles! And there is a warning message "User: :_load: Unable to load user with ID:62." I looked at the old site, and my user ID there is 62.

Is there some field I should not export from the old site to avoid this problem? Then I can delete the empty articles on the new site and reimport? And why would the content not be included?

Hello Patti,
My main problem seems to be in selecting fields to use. I know that I'm just a newbie at this, but it seems like it would be easier for people like me just to have an option to make one selection that would automatically include all standard Joomla article fields.

We do have example templates which comes with few standard fields. See Install Example Template document.

I get an error message that says "Cannot load the category path for category ID X and language." See attachment. I found the "id" by checking the box in the quick add area to show ID fields and added that but I get the same error.

The error means that there is no category path found in database with the ID value. Do you have the Joomla categories already created in database? Do you have category_path field in import file? Please post the sample of import file you are using to check.

You don't need to use id field as this error is about category not found.

There's no content in the Joomla articles! And there is a warning message "User: :_load: Unable to load user with ID:62." I looked at the old site, and my user ID there is 62.

The user with ID 62 must be available on old site but it is not found on new site and so the error. If you do not import created_by field then the user ID doing the import will be used.

Is there some field I should not export from the old site to avoid this problem?

The data on old site and new site are different. They may not have same ID values. So we recommend not to use fields ending with _id on import.

And why would the content not be included?

Please post the import debug log to check. To get the debug log check How to collect debug information? document.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

I haven't tried out the Joomla article export/import removing the created_by field yet -- But I quickly wanted to address the second issue in your reply since I know our time difference is causing this to be a very slow process:

You said this:
"The error means that there is no category path found in database with the ID value. Do you have the Joomla categories already created in database? Do you have category_path field in import file? Please post the sample of import file you are using to check."

This problem had to do with exporting K2 categories. I understand that the categories for Joomla articles needs to be set up before import, but my understanding with K2 is that this export/import process will create the K2 categories on the new site.

Thank you.

This deals with the Joomla articles. I did as you said in removing the ID field from export, and the error about not finding the user is gone. But the content of each Joomla article is still not being exported. I do have "full text" included in the fields.

I am attaching three items.
1. screenshot showing that the "full text" field is included in the export template.
2. a screenshot showing how full text is empty in the "Preview of import."
3. the saved html (converted to PDF) page of the debugging report from the import.

I found by looking at the table in phpMyAdmin that the main content area was in the "intro text" field. So I added that to the template. But now all the fields are not aligned properly (the right text is not in the right column). Then I added every field to the template (except created by fields) and it's still not right. I've added the CSVI as well as the log file.

Hello Patti,

I found by looking at the table in phpMyAdmin that the main content area was in the "intro text" field.
That is correct, it is a bit counter-intuitive but it is because of historical reasons the name is like that. We have this field also in our Content import documentation.

But now all the fields are not aligned properly (the right text is not in the right column).
That is because your regular text will also include commas. To deal with this in your export template you need to set both the field delimiter and text enclosure on the File tab. As per the CSV standard, the field delimiter is a comma ( , ) and the text enclosure is a double quote ( " ). If you set those in your export template and run the export, the data will properly align. Once that is fixed, you should be able to import your file.

Let us know how it goes.
Kind regards,

RolandD

This is for exporting K2 categories. I have tried various things in adding and removing fields, and I still get the error "Cannot load the category path for category ID X and language."

Hello Patti,
The below query for selecting the categories is failing and so the error. I would like to see how the categories are stored in K2 table. Please run custom table export of #__k2_categories table with template fields id, name, parent, language and send me the export file to check.

SELECT `c`.`parent`,`c`.`name` FROM `n2z6y_k2_categories` AS `c` LEFT JOIN `n2z6y_k2_categories` AS `x` ON `x`.`parent` = `c`.`id` WHERE `c`.`id` = 2 AND `c`.`language` = '*'
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello,
Thank you for posting the requested file. Found the cause for error "Cannot load the category path for category ID X and language *". In your #__k2_categories the language field is empty but RO CSVI looks for language with value * in query. Since that row is not found you are seeing the error on export.

To solve this
1. In the export file ChristianCoMOGen-CSVI-CustomExport.csv you sent, update the language column value to * for all rows.
2. Create RO CSVI Custom table import template.
3. On Options tab set the table to k2_categories table and import based on field to id. See attached screenshot.
4. Run the import with updated ChristianCoMOGen-CSVI-CustomExport.csv file.
5. Run K2 categories export after that.
