When exporting the product category in google base xml formal, these are not google product feed taxonomy product categories and will all be rejected by the feed.
For example, if a product is in a category "Photocell Switches" – the resulting export says ‘photocell switches’ , which I guess it's done it job perfectly ;)

But this will be rejected by google base (Merchnt Center) as in this example it would need to display
‘Hardware > Electrical Supplies > Light Switches’

Any ideas on how we can use CSVi to help us further here. Can we use some sort of mapping or rules again?

Hello Andy,

You can use the replacement rules to setup a mapping to replace your categories to the Google Merchant categories. The Google Base export does change the / to a > on export to match the Google separator.
Kind regards,

Thanks, I assumed this would be the way we would have to go.

I have never used this before, but can I use CSVi to import rules initially, but then can I also use CSVi to assign those rules to a field in the google base export template.

Thanks,
Andy

PS - I promise, I will well document this full process, once complete, so that you can update your own site support section :)

Hey Andy,

but can I use CSVi to import rules initially
There is no option to import rules into CSVI except the Custom table import/export.

The data is in JSON format but the field is pretty small so it is easy to understand and still usable to create such a string in a spreadsheet.

Assigning them to a template field would require an export of the imported rules first so you have the IDs and then do a custom table import for the templatefields_rules table. This requires the ID of the template field and the ID of the rule.

So it is doable but requires a bit of work.

PS - I promise, I will well document this full process
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
