Good Morning

I have been using csvi to compose sitemaps for several years.

However, I have only just noticed a descrepancy in the field product_url between what the site produces and what appears in the sitemaps

e.g.

Product Name:

England F.A. Sir Geoff Hurst Signed Shirt

slug:

england-f-a-sir-geoff-hurst-signed-shirt

Site url:

https://www.4footyfans.com/store/signed-memorabilia/england-f-a-sir-geoff-hurst-signed-shirt

SiteMAP url:

<loc><![CDATA[https://www.4footyfans.com/store/signed-memorabilia/england-f.a.-sir-geoff-hurst-signed-shirt-framed]]></loc>

The distinct difference being the inclusion of the full-stops in the sitemap url.

Clearly, the full-stops should not be present in the sitemap url as this serves only to produce a 404 and many coverage issues with Google.

I hope you can advise on a solution, perhaps utilising a Rule, as we have many such products being rejected by Google.

Best

Eddie

Hello Eddie,
If it is about replacing dots using rules you can use CSVI Multi replace rule plugin and Find and Replace Operation and apply it on product_url field.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello,

Just to get back on to this. It is weird that CSVI is exporting your URLs with dots. The reason it is weird is because CSVI doesn't generate the URLs itself but asks Joomla for the URLs. Have you tried to empty the SEF URLs from the Maintenance menu in CSVI? This should regenerate the SEF URLs on export. The other option is in your export template set it to recreate the SEF URLs.

I am curios to find out why these URLs are different.
Kind regards,

RolandD

The is a similar problem with;

Product Name: West Bromwich Albion Blade Puttercover & Marker

sef url: https://www.4footyfans.com/store/golf-products/west-bromwich-albion-blade-puttercover-marker

sitemap entry: ......../store/golf-products/west-bromwich-albion-blade-puttercover-&-marker

The sitemap is determining the url from the product name rather than the slug.

Hello Eddie,
Sitemap URLs are constructed using alias field and not from product name field. This is if you let CSVI to construct your product_url field on export. But i am thinking you must be having product URL already saved for your product as '......../store/golf-products/west-bromwich-albion-blade-puttercover-&-marker'. In VirtueMart Products page for product "West Bromwich Albion Blade Puttercover & Marker" do you see this value saved for URL field?
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello Theruna

"you must be having product URL already saved for your product"

Saved where?

The product alias (slug) is "west-bromwich-albion-blade-puttercover-marker"

It is only the product name which has the "&" between "puttercover & marker"

The same issue is repeating as with the full-stops in the product names.

Hello Eddie,
Saved where?

In your VirtueMart Product details page in URL field. Attached is the screenshot where you can find the field.

The product alias (slug) is "west-bromwich-albion-blade-puttercover-marker"

It is only the product name which has the "&" between "puttercover & marker"

The same issue is repeating as with the full-stops in the product names.

Yes i agree with product name issue but we want to check if you have URLs are already saved before we could dig further.

Hello Tharuna

Yes, as I have said the product aliases are correct:

e.g.

west-bromwich-albion-blade-puttercover-marker

What you have referred to as the product url, I have referred to as the alias/slug, so we are talking about the same thing.

Hello Eddie,
There is a bit of a confusion i guess. We are not talking about the same thing. I agree that your product aliases are correct but you still haven't answered my question about URL field. The URL field is under Product alias and MPN fields and can be seen in the screenshot attached in my previous post. Can you tell us if there is any value stored in there?
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Ah! Sorry!
I had never even noticed the url field.
Mine are all empty.
I thought the product url was the "domain/store/category/slug"
What exactly is the url field used for?

Hello Eddie,
I had never even noticed the url field.
Mine are all empty.

This makes me now wonder how your product_urls are constructed because CSVI uses Joomla SEF to generate product_url on export. Can you send me a private message of your site administrator access details and SFTP details? I will take a look at your site.

I thought the product url was the "domain/store/category/slug"

Yes but Joomla constructs this URL using route to a specific page.

What exactly is the url field used for?

That field has the product_url field value if saved in database. I wanted to check if you had manually entered product_url value in this field and so you are getting weird URLs on export.
Kind regards,

Tharuna
