Hello - I'm trying to figure out how to easily get a template that matches for both import AND export - not sure why virtuemart products would include different fields in the 2 different processes - but shouldnt it be an easy thing to export my sample data, add a few new items using the layout i just downloaded, and then reupload for import without having to match fields and skip fields, etc?

Thanks in advance for any help - trying to get a good workflow going for my client that basically just requires them to export csv, edit, then reupload.

Hello,
not sure why virtuemart products would include different fields in the 2 different processes

All the basic fields which are needed for VirtueMart product are available for both export and import. Not sure which fields you are mentioning as different ones.
CSVI needs product_sku as required field for product import, you need to add this field in product export. Rest of the fields can be added as per your requirement in the export so the same can be used in import. Have a look at VirtueMart product import and export to know how the fields supported in both export and import.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

For instance the Category fields dont seem to line up at all. Ive included a screenshot of the available fields for virtuemart product import and export.

So when I'm trying to import the file that I've exported from CSVI, I have to try to match what fields will go where. I assume the category path is the only option to use when importing.

Hello,

The fields don't have to line up because the export uses different fields than the import routine. The category_name for example is of no use during import, that is why the category_path needs to be used. I will tell you why the category_name is useless. Let's say your category_name is shoes and this is your category structure:
Men -> Shoes
Women -> Shoes

CSVI would have no clue which category you mean with Shoes. Now the category path being Men/Shoes, CSVI does know where to look.

The category name is available for export because it can be useful for humans :)
Kind regards,
