Hi All,

I have exported my VM categories with the aim of re-importing with updated meta descriptions, however the category ID's do not get exported for some reason. This has been selected in the template fields but it seemingly is just ignored?

Any suggestions?

Regards
Donna

Hello Donna,

Can you post me your debug log and a copy of your template? Without this, it is impossible to tell what is going on. As long as the field is added to the template and published, it should export.
Kind regards,

RolandD

My Apologies, I thought it may have been something simple so omitted the template and log. Please see attached.

Hello Donna,

No problem. Even to find that simple issue we need to check what is happening with your export which only debug log can tell us.

So running the export here with your template exports the virtuemart_category_id values and there is nothing wrong i could find with debug log too. Are you having trouble only with virtuemart_category_id field or all the fields?
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello Donna,
We would like to check more on this issue as we are not able to reproduce this on our local site. Can you send me a private message of your site administrator login details along with SFTP details?
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello Donna,
Thank you for sending the requested details. I tried the export on your site and can see virtuemart_category_id exported in the file. Attached screenshot of the exported file. Are we missing something here?

Hmm...that is very odd, the category ID is now being exported. The only thing I can think of is that I have recently imported some product prices and meta descriptions, maybe that has kicked it into action, as it certainly was not exporting them previously. Very strange indeed. Although, the export does seem to be splitting the meta_desc field for some reason. I managed to work around the missing ID's anyway and uploaded the meta descriptions without them.

Hello Donna,

We could not reproduce the issue nor can I explain why the field was not exporting. Doing an import sounds unlikely because the virtuemart_category_id field is a core field of the system and doesn't require any configuration unlike a custom field for example.

Although, the export does seem to be splitting the meta_desc field for some reason.
If you mean it splits them across multiple cells, make sure you have set the text enclosure to " in your template settings.

You can of course use the category_path instead of the ID field. The category_path is also the field we recommend using.
Kind regards,

RolandD
