Resolved Update existing products Viruemart

That’s exactly what I recently asked Max to finally change, because I don’t understand why SKUs can be duplicated in Virtuemart to me, it’s completely baffling. I know a lot of companies that use Virtuemart, and in every case, they mistakenly end up duplicating these codes. I’ll admit that when adding items manually, I’ve made this mistake myself many times.

otherwise, the import could cause quite a mess

If you want to update products based on other fields like product_gtin or product_mpn you can do that by setting Import based on field on Options tab in VirtueMart Product import template. By default this is set to product_sku.

To update existing products you should have product_sku field in your import file along with other fields that needs to be updated. product_sku field is used to fetch records from database. If there is already a record with given SKU value then record is updated else new product record is created. Read through VirtueMart Product import document to setup template and fields. Document also explains a example import.
