The latter, works nicer & is easier to understand for an administrator of a webshop and when manually adding a product in the back end. It just makes it all very simple/easy.
But I also want to import a few hundred products & I am worried that by using this 3rd party plugin, I will only be able to get so far when using CSVi.
I have just been reading this thread where it looks as though using VM3 & Multi variants is possible to import using CSVi.
I hope you understand where I am coming from & just after advice on wether to turn to;
- Multi Variants - which may be easier to set up with CSVi, but seems a bit confusing in the back end.
- StockableCustomFields - which is easy to use backend, but not sure about CSVi.
Have you seen/used this 3rd party plugin and would it be possible to set up a csvi import to link the parent/childs when using it?
The developer over there said it just needs a few records in the database;
each child product will be defined by a record in the table: virtuemart_product_customfields
This record should have:
1. virtuemart_product_id > The parent product's id
2. virtuemart_custom_id > The id of the stockable custom
3. customfield_value > stockablecustomfields
4. customfield_param > This does the trick. It should have a format like: parentOrderable=0|custom_id=""|child_product_id="102"|
child_product_id > The id of a child product, you want to use as variation
