Hi CSVI

Having difficulties overwriting existing slug on vm category import

Have tried empying virtuemart tables and reimporting but what i guess is an old slug associated to this vm cat id still remains

Log and import file as attached

com_csvi.log.44.zip RBDCategoryTemplateFEB16-aqua.csv

Preview and log file seems to correctly show and write, bit on the front end of the site the sef link behind this vm cat is instead "https://www.recyclingbins-direct.co.uk/litter-bins/heritage-litter-bin.html" and not https://www.recyclingbins-direct.co.uk/Childrens-Novelty-Aqua-Buddy-Bins.html

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as to why this import is not overwriting

Kind regards

Tim

Hello Tim,

The data is stored correctly as you saw as well. So the import is actually updating the data but the problem I think lies in your caching. SEF URLs are notoriously cached and emptying the caches is needed to get the new updated URL.

One way to check if the routing is OK is by turning SEF off and see that you go to the correct products. Don't forget to turn SEF back on after that.
Kind regards,

thank Roland, turning SEF urls off, clearing cache takes to correct vm cat id of 23 (with same product). Turning back on SEF urls returns incorrect slug which is not associated with vm cat id 23 in database table virtuemart_categories_en_gb (but to same product)

It is like template is using another database table for categories or some how holding cache, even though clearing all joomla cache does not remove- perhaps as a result of VM category table changes over the last 12 months?

Kind regards

Tim

Hello Tim,

Finding out which cache is used it a PITA. In case you are using a SEF extension, there is a good chance that it has it's own database table. Joomla itself doesn't store any SEF URLs unless you use the Redirection Manager. This stores URLs. That is something you can check as well.

Since routing is fine without SEF, the import has gone fine.
