Hello, so the last days i am trying to work with CSVI and i must say its a great tool. It has some learning curve though and sometimes reading the documentation is not enough.

What I am trying to do today is to import images to a bulk of products. I use the following fields:

  • product_sku

  • file_url

  • published

The thing is that the products have an image by default. Its a generic image for every created product, and when i import the new ones through CSV the default image is still inside the product. Is there a way to delete the old image?

Thanks!

OK! I've done that. I tried the procedure on a backup site and it works great. So in order to contribute to the thread a bit myself, I will share with you what I did and worked:

1. Create a CSV File with product_sku and file_url
2. File URL won't be used, but it has to be there in order for the procedure to work.
3. Create a Virtuemart Media Product Import Template.
4. On Image Tab of the template, update the directory of the images (just to be on the safe side) ex. images/virtuemart/product/
5. Just below that, there is a field called "Delete Image Relation". Set this to yes.
6. Save & Close the template.
7. On the template fields, select the template you just created.
8. Press Quick Add Button at the top left of the screen.
9. Add product_sku and file_url
10. Make sure they are in the right order. These must be in the same order with your CSV file. For now lets just put product_sku first, and file_url second.
11. Go to import tab and select the template you've just created.
12. From top left corner press Select File
13. Select the CSV file you just created, and then press Preview.
14. Make sure the fields are in the right order. If everything seems ok, continue with import.

This should delete all images for the selected products. Then you can reimport the products with the other procedures.

Hello,
Try using either Media product import template or Product import template instead of Media import and you should be seeing Delete Image Relations on Images tab. You can then set it to Yes and run the import.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Thanks for your reply! That helped a lot. I managed to import all the photos I needed. I did some mistake though and I can't seem to find Delete Image Relations in Template settings. I am using the latest version of CSV Improved.

Hello,

It has some learning curve though and sometimes reading the documentation is not enough.
Indeed, some trial and error also helps to understand what is going on and get an idea of what you need to do. Of course we are here to help.

when i import the new ones through CSV the default image is still inside the product.
This image is not cached?

Is there a way to delete the old image?
In your template you can always set to Delete image relations to Yes.

If you want us to look further, include the debug log and sample of your import file.
Kind regards,

RolandD
