Resolved Related Products keep getting added

Hi,

If I do a product import of an item that already exists in the data base, and there are related products, the related products get duplicated.

I do not know if what I am explaining is clear, so as an example if I import Product A that has related products Prod-B and Prod-C, the first time I have {Prod-B,Prod-C}. The second time I import it Product A has {Prod-A, Prod-B, Prod-A, Prod-B}.

The list of related products just keeps growing. What am I doing wrong?

Hello,
Your related_products field is empty in your import file and log says there is nothing processed. How about you try to import having values in your related_products field? try doing it for few products and see if the old values are removed and new ones are inserted. If any issue post the debug log.

Hello,
I just had a look at your site and found that core virtuemart records have been edited. It is not advisable to do any changes in core records on which the functionality of entire system lies. I fixed these two records and ran import twice with only one product in my import file and see there are no duplications. The product i imported is AST026 with related_products value as AST060-BED|AST036. Run the import and see how it goes now.

Tharuna,

Thank you for looking at it, I would NEVER change a core Virtuemart record, that is way beyond my knowledge so how that happened is a mystery.
I did look at a previous post of yours concerning a similar matter but was too scared to make the changes to the core which you recommended.
I will try to do an update now and if all is okay; thank you for your assistance

Hello Rick,

that is way beyond my knowledge so how that happened is a mystery.
I think you actually may have that wonderful knowledge :)

The thing is, the related products and related categories are showing up in VirtueMart as Custom Fields. There you can modify it whichever way you want. So with the use of a GUI, it makes it very easy for anyone to alter that. It would be better if these were somehow protected by VirtueMart.

Tharuna already fixed the records, so you should be good to go.

I'm just a furniture manufacturer who thought (thinks) he could also do his own website, now my part time hobby. Techy webiste knowledge is coming slowly but i'm an old guy!

Hello,
Can you check your #__virtuemart_customs table for virtuemart_vendor_id value you have for related categories and related products? The value of virtuemart_vendor_id should be 0 for these two rows. If its not then try changing it to 0 and run the import.
