Hello
I am trying to export Virtuemart products but it is not exported correctly,. There are HTML tags as well as line breaks, which mess up the CSV file. How do I change settings so that the product field remains in 1 column.
I am attaching a screenshot.

Thanks

Hello,

This is not an issue with the export itself but with Excel unable to handle such files. You're best bet is to use OpenOffice or LibreOffice as they have no issues to read such CSV files. The other option would be to manipulate the output before it is exported using replacement rules in CSVI.

Of course I also assume you have set both the field delimiter and text enclosure values.
Kind regards,

Hello,

I am not using an.delimiters or text encloser.
You should otherwise it is not a valid CSV file, especially since you are exporting HTML data. Advice is to use a comma as field delimiter and double-quote as text enclosure.

How do I use the replacement option so that the html tags and line break doesnt occur?
The rule will need to be a regular expression where you look for \r\n and replace it with a space for example. Do know this will cause you to lose the linebreaks.

Hello
I tried using rules as advised above and using delimiters as well as encloser text but I got a blank product desc column. When I disable the rules for Product desc, I got an incomplete description. How do I change so that I get a complete product description.

Thank You.

Hello,
Can you post on the rule setting you have for product_desc? Incomplete product description may be because you must be having " inside your product_desc. Can you post an example product description you have in your database and which is exported incomplete?
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello,

Can you post a screenshot of the rule you created? Your explanation is incomplete and unclear I am afraid.
Kind regards,

Hello,

That screenshot is only part of the page and not the complete page. Find attached the complete page as to how it should look like. After creating the rule like this, you need to assign it to the description field by selecting it in the description field.

That should do it.

Hello
I changed the settings like the way it is in your screenshot but only the first product has description. Others seem to have been truncated.

Hello,

CSVI doesn't remove anything when it comes to a replacement rule unless you ask it to do so. You can check the actual CSV file with another program if the descriptions are there. The rule as I posted won't remove the descriptions, just the linebreaks.

If you have any other rules in place, make sure that they are not the ones removing the descriptions.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Now the product description is showing up on Open Office. Excel doesnt show it somehow..
Now my only concern is the html tags that keep appearing on the description. Any way to remove it?

Thanks once again

Hello,

You are going to need another replacement rule to do that. See the Removing HTML tags on export document for more information.
