When I export product data from Virtuemart and then attempt to convert it to *.xlsx format for excel, the product description pushes into multiple lines corrupting the output. See attached sample data .csv export and what it looks like when converted to .xlsx.

I am using the '^' character as a field delimiter as its not contained within the content anywhere. I've tried multiple other unique field and text delimiters but that's not helped so I guess I'm not on the right track here.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Not sure why you are using all these odd characters for delimiters, the CSV format is a Comma Separated Value format. So you can use the comma as field separator and you would use the " double quote as text enclosure. CSVI will make sure all data is properly escaped and this will allow you to open the file as-is in Excel. Checking the content of your file, you must use the text enclosure in your case.

Then there is the case of Excel having a horrible track record with linebreaks. See how you go with the comma and double quote. If that doesn't help, you are going to need to use Libreoffice/OpenOffice to read the CSV file and save it if you want to further tweak it in Excel.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Thanks Roland,
yes you were right. The delimiter character used wasn't causing the issue, it was in fact excel. When excel was reaching a </p> tag in the product description field, it was treating it as a line break and dropping to the next row. When opened in Google Sheets the fields were displayed and separated correctly. Easy conversion from there to excel so I am sorted now.

Your help is much appreciated as always.

Cheers
