Hi Roland,

I have a strange problem when I'm importing CSV file with products in Bulgarian site with Cyrillic language. I have a csv with product_sku and product_name and category_path columns, and usually when I import the file, the system fills the Alias field alone with the name of the product. BUT now looks like the system does not understand the Bulgarian words, and puts in alias automatically only the words in the name like "LED" per example because it's in english, but the name of my product is "LED Крушка Блистер" per example. Is there something that I'm doing wrong, because I have made many sites in Bulgarian and never experienced that kind of problem with aliases.

Joomla version: 3.4.8
CSV version: 6.5.2
VM version: 3.0.12

Hello,
Can you try to select Bulgarian language on login page in your Joomla administrator login and then try the import? If that doesn't help then please post your debug log.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Yes I tried it, but in does not help. This is the second log after the login with BG language. In Vm I have to use Bulgarian , not english in Cofiguration and then in CSV to select Bulgarian again for the import template, don't I?

This is log after I select Only Bulgarian language in VM Configuration Shop, filed Multilingual shop (but my site is not multilingual so I deleted English as a language) and selected Bulgarian for language in the CSV Template that I'm using.

it will be great if you can replicate the problem and to point me what I need to do, because, as I said already, it is possible to miss something important, when doing this.

One more issue with CSV import, when I try to import a table with product with slug column in which the text is led-крушка-2w-230v-g9-бяла-светлина-блистер-3бр, after the import the actual alias is led-krushka---2w-230v-g9-byala-svetlina-blister-3br - u can see that it is different from mine in the table. I do not know what more to do. It is something wrong with the import, because, if I rename manually the alias with bg characters and make an export, the slug is the one I wrote, but manually. But the automated import does not work - neighter with column for slug, neighter without a column.

Hello,

There are a few things floating around here, let me try to make sense of them. First, in the VM configuration you set the language you want to use so this will create the necessary database tables. You can of course leave it all set as default English but then you will need to import into the English language tables. As this is usually confusing, it is adviced to set the language you are actually using.

The other thing is the import of your cyrillic aliases. Not sure how much you know about translations but there is a process called transliteration. This process turns non-Roman characters into Roman characters. So this is for Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew etc. to create strings that are allowed by systems.

Aliases is one of those fields that are translitered by Joomla because they are used in URLs. Transliteration happens in Joomla when you are logged in with the language you are typing in and the language file supports transliteration. So in your case, Bulgarian and when you write Bulgurian, aliases get transliterated. You have already posted the result of that. This is your original alias
led-крушка-2w-230v-g9-бяла-светлина-блистер-3бр
and this is the resulting transliterated alias
led-krushka---2w-230v-g9-byala-svetlina-blister-3br
The reason you can see transliteration is working here is because if there is no transliteration you end up with only the roman letters and numbers as you posted before.

This alias you have now is actually correct and that is how it is supposed to work. At this point I don't see the problems you see because the transliterated alias is correct.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Thank you Roland,
I don't see a problem in transliteration, but in this case the process is very strange, because no matter if the option Unicode Alias in Joomla configuration is set to Yes or No:

1. If I use English (not Bulgarian tables) - both in VM and CSV template, and import a csv file (without a slug column) - I end up with cut BG words and only roman letters and numbers as U said.
2. If I use Bulgarian - both in VM and CSV template, and import a csv file (without a slug column) - I end up with transliterated aliases.
3. When I manually make a product and do not fill the filed for Alias and Save the product - the alias is written in Bulgarian with BG words and letters. Same if I erase the alias field of an existing product and Save - the new alias that appears is with Cyrillic Bulgarian words.
So my question, because I am very confused, is what to do - to import the csv table without prepared Slug column and to let the CSV and VM to make transliterated aliases, but when I insert a product manually trough VM administration and save without filling the Alias, the alias will be with Cyrillic words, not transliterated - can I change this...

Sorry for troubling you, I know that this is not probably CSV issue, but I can not figure it out.

Have a great, great evening!

Hello,

VirtueMart likes to change things around so we jump hoops as well :) Just to be clear on what happens on this site. If you create a Joomla article with a Bulgarian title, is the alias transliterated in that case?

I am inclined to say that transliteration should always work because the web just isn't fully ready for UTF-8 URLs.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hi again :) If I create an article and Save - the alias is with cyrillic letters if the Unicode Alias is set to Yes, but if Unicode is to No, there are only numbers. Same if I make a menu item.

Hello,

This is getting weirder by the minute. You should get a date if Joomla doesn't know how to transliterate the title. What numbers do you get?
Kind regards,

RolandD

Date and Time of saving I suppose: 2016-06-08-15-55-43 - this is for article, if I save a menu - it is not an External link, and per example the title of the menu is LED Осветление - the alias is only led. BUT if I login with bulgarian language, the transliteration is working ofr Menus and Articles, but in VM the alias if you erase the field and Save, is always with Bulgarian letters. I said you that it is very strange...

That is indeed the date and time as expected. You have to be logged in with Bulgarian otherwise transliteration won't work because English doesn't have transliteration.

So in my opinion, VirtueMart is doing it wrong, it should transliterate. Perhaps send them a note that transliteration is not working?
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hmmm, and I reached to this conclusion. Here are two images, which explain better, I think.... Something went wrong with the new version of VM I suppose

Yes, it does look like VM has an issue. I am quite sure I remember VM used to do transliteration as well.
Kind regards,
