Your debug log shows that you have set language as English(en-GB) in your template settings and that is the reason Greek letters are stripped, change the language to Greek in your template settings on Options tab and run the import.

Thank you, yesterday I tried that, and the transliteration was good.

But I have 6 other sites in Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Bulgarian but with Joomla 3.4.8. and 3.6.x and CSV PRO 6.5.2 and 6.5.7. There we did not set language in VM to Spanish, or Italian or other languages, In old version of VM 3.0.12 there is not a filed in configuration menu for Shop language like the new one!

There is a field to check Use English as fallback for untranslated strings". So everything in these sites was working.

My concern is that after the update of Joomla and CSV and VM on these sites - there will be problems with the language and where the products are. The shops are not multilingual.

Is there a way for CSV to work no matter the new option in VM for Shop language? Because if I import a product manually in VM if the shop language is set to English, but the site is in Greek, the transliteration in aliases is working, but in greek, (the unicode aliases are set to no in Joomla admin but they do not related ...).

In old version of VM 3.0.12 there is not a filed in configuration menu for Shop language like the new one!

That is not correct, there was a field in VM configuration to set multi language even in 3.0.12 version.

CSVI uses language set in VirtueMart configuration so it can import the product data to the tables and its corresponding language tables. If the language is set to English, it would use the English language pack and the transliterator from this pack to generate alias. You can select Greek in your VirtueMart configuration page and in Multilingual shop setting so you see the option of Greek language in CSVI import template. You can then do the import.

As much as i know, VirtueMart uses the frontend installed languages to store the product data and in corresponding language tables. Since you have Greek enabled on site VM would have used this language to generate the alias field. In which product language table was this alias stored?

In VM the settings for languages are like this on the image, that i am sending. And I have no problems with the import and aliases. Hope you understand now. And if I do the updates for this site, I will not be able to upload products in english tables anymore, because of the slugs and transliteration, and have to change many things, to import products in hungarian language, and so

Yes, the CSVI import template shows English in option because you have English language set in VirtueMart configuration. Import will be done to en_gb tables and alias is generated in english.

Sorry but I dont understand the problem here. If you have english set in VirtueMart configuration and in language settings you will see English as an option in CSVI import template settings. You can do the import to english tables then and the slugs generated will be in english.

But with old versions of VM, CSV and Joomla In new versions of everything i have the problem with slugs, for that I opened the topic here - if the language is English and the table in CSV is in english, when I do the import the slugs are not in english! the greek words are cutted off in the alias field, not transliterated. I did not have the same problem in other sites, although that I am using English language in VM and English language in CSV import table. Is it clear now?

What is important to know here is how CSVI handles the languages. First of all, the language set in VirtueMart is of no influence here. All language related things come from the import template language setting.

If in your template the language is set to English, CSVI will use the English language tables for VirtueMart which are products_en_gb for example. Transliteration will use the en_gb language file. This will explain why your Greek characters are not transliterated because the English language file cannot transliterate Greek.

If in your template the language is set to Greek, CSVI will use the Greek language tables for VirtueMart which are products_el_GR for example. Transliteration will use the el_gr language file. Transliteration will then work as expected.

Loading transliterated Greek data into an English language table is therefore not possible. It is a bit odd as well if you think about it because each language should be in it's own table. CSVI wouldn't know which language to load if everything is set to English but your data is in Greek.

Now from what I get is that you want to store Greek or another language data into an English language table. The only hack would be to change the plugins/csviaddon/virtuemart/com_virtuemart/table/productlang.php on line 43 and the code should read:

parent::__construct('#__virtuemart_products_en_gb', 'virtuemart_product_id', $db, $config);

This way the data is always stored in the English table.

I will try this for other sites, that I am worried about, because in there products are not stored in Spanish, or Italian or Hungarian language and there can be problems after updates, so it is good to be prepared. So thank you very much for your hack, your support is top-notch as always!

For the site in Greek I will follow your advice, because I agree that the languages and tables makes sense, and аs this site is under development now, it is good to follow the best practices.

All you need to do I think is rename the database tables from xxx_products_en_gb to xxx_products_xx_xx where the last two xx is the appropriate language string. This will need to be done for all language tables. If you go to VirtueMart after that and save the language in the configuration. All should be good. Of course test this first before you do it on the production site
