Hello there, thanks for an excellent product.

1) Can I pipe several different values into csv via default weight field, which then appears on Product Dimensions and Weight tab. Or do I need to set this up as a custom weight field to add multiple weight values?

2) Products are being sold in the following units of measurement. Millilitres, litres, meters, kg, grammes. So do I use "product_lwh_uom" field specify KG, M, CM and then use another field for the value or can it be done in one field as 16KG, 32M, 1.2L, 300ML all under product_lwh_uom column?

3) Finally can I have multiple SKU's for one product possible?

Many thanks for your help and time it is valued and appreciated.

PS, Left glowing review on joomla as promised from last help as this product very much deserves it :)

Hello,

Thanks for the review, appreciate it.

To answer your questions.
  1. Try doing it manually in VirtueMart and see if you can. If you can't then CSVI can't either ;) So you will have to use a custom field to set multiple weight values for a product. Just out of curiosity, how can a product have multiple weights?
  2. You will have to specify them separately. There are two fields product_lwh_uom for length, width, and height and product_weight_uom for weight to specify units of measurement.
  3. Yes, you can have multiple SKUs for a product. If you edit a product in VirtueMart you will see there are 3 fields, SKU, GTIN, and MPN. So you can use those fields. You cannot have duplicates for the SKU field (product_sku) as CSVI uses that as unique identifier.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Thanks RolandD for advice

1 & 3) Thanks i will do as you advised.
"Just out of curiosity, how can a product have multiple weights?" - It's for building products so they will have 15kg and 30kg sacks for example.

2) "You will have to specify them separately. There are two fields product_lwh_uom for length, width, and height and product_weight_uom for weight to specify units of measurement."

I see so can I specify in product_weight_uom field can I do kg, meters, grammes, ml, litres?

So 5KG | 10KG for one product 10M for another 300ml for another etc? Or does it have to be the same unit of measurement for all products in that field? In the virtuemart backend this can be specified on a product by product basis. Attached example of what I mean.

If that's the case to save asking another question are the units of KG, M, CM, ML, L correct? I did look through examples so know kg, m, cm is correct but was unsure about all the rest.

Thanks again for your help :)

Hello,

Looking at your sample file, seems like you misunderstood me. In VirtueMart when you edit a product you can only set 1 value for weight and dimensions. Not like you have now in your field multiple values. The values for the units of measurement are fixed as well. This must be KG/G/MG and M/CM/MM one of those. The product_weight/product_length/product_width etcetera must be numeric values.

So 5KG | 10KG for one product 10M for another 300ml for another etc?
This is impossible. That is why I said try to enter it in VirtueMart yourself and see what happens.

Each product can only have one value. I hope that is clear.
Kind regards,

RolandD

okay thanks, that's clear. will do test as you suggested on a few products.

could you point me to the tutorial in the documentation for updating a csv. been looking through for how to import a csv, the client then wants to update the csv frequently and do the import themselves - assuming it just updates the csv file when re-imported.

thanks again for your time and effort it is appreciated and valued.

Hello,

You can have a look at the Import VirtueMart products tutorial. The one thing you need to know is that the product_sku must be unique and present. Any other field is optional. If you have a base file that your customer can update and import with a template you created, you should be good to go.
Kind regards,

RolandD
