I've spotted something that I thought I'd check because it works the way I want it to, but if it's wrong I want to know about it before I get surprised by a future update.

When I use the maintenance option to empty the virtuemart database, a warning message pops up to advise which tables are emptied. One of those listed is virtuemart_product_customfields, but after the procedure is complete I still have all my custom fields in Components > VirtueMart > Products > Custom Fields.

As I said, this is exactly what I want. I don't often make changes to the custom fields, whereas we intermittently use the empty database to clear all the products out of the site if the content needs refreshing. If I did need to delete the custom fields, there are only a small number of them so I could them manually.

If this isn't the intended behaviour and you expect to change it at some point, please can you consider making it configurable so I can keep my custom fields (and anything else I rely on that I haven't even noticed yet)?

Hello,

That is not intended behaviour as the query which empties VirtueMart tables empties virtuemart_product_customfields table too. What are the custom field type you see in products page? Does it belong to core VirtueMart custom fields? Go to CSVI Logs page and in the entry for Empty database check if there is an entry "Product customfields table has been emptied".

We cannot ignore the custom fields table when emptying other tables like products as the product_ids in custom fields table can conflict with the new products when inserted. So it is good to do a complete clean up.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Ah, hang on. I've just dug into the database and it looks like what I'm seeing is the contents of virtuemart_customs, not virtuemart_product_customfields.

Hello,
Yes, we do not empty virtuemart_customs table as the custom fields can be reused with products.
Kind regards,

Tharuna
