Hi people,

I'm completely new in this world, so I hope you can help me out :)
I'd like to achieve this: Fill in the missing details through the ICECat database.
Maybe I'm thinking to simple here .. I've got a CSV file and created a template based on the available fields.

The fields I've got so far:
product_id, ean (sku), qty, date, price, tax, category, name, short_description, description
I skip the fields Product_id, date, price, tax and short_description in the field mapper and created a template based on this files.

Everything works ok if I fill in all of the data myself. But I thought that, when I leave i.e. the Description empty, it would fill itself through the ICECat database, or am I wrong? What happens then, is that I get an error what says: Language is missing.

Solving this would bring me to a higher level :) but .... the best solution would be an export / import of a specific category from ICECat (in this case Cellphones / tablets only). Would that be possible?

The "Language Missing id" is for product_name field, since this field is not in your field list, you are seeing the language missing error which is the default value VirtueMart uses when product_name is empty. You need to add product_name field to your template fields.

You need to do few settings in your import template to use ICECat database for the fields which are empty. Have a look at the ICECat import documentation to know how to setup ICECat import.

You can import data from ICECat database specific to manufacturer name, the document linked above will give you more information on it.

If you have any issues after setting up the template as explained in the document, send the sample of the import file and debug log of the import. You can look at the section "Where to get the debug information?" on top of this page to know how to get the debug log.

I followed every step you told me, but still can't get it to work.
The steps I followed:
Created a CSV file with exact the same field names as in VM

  • Created a template

  • Checked if all of the fields matched

  • Loaded the ICECat index

  • Imported the CSV file (no errors and successfully imported 3 products)



Just for sure, I created all fields mentioned in the tutorial:
category_path
manufacturer_name
product_sku
product_name
product_desc
product_s_desc
product_available_date
file_url
file_url_thumb
features
related_products

I gave the products a dummy name for testing purposes, but the SKU is identical to the one in the ICECat database.
I suspected that the product description would be filled in, but no. I hoped the product name would also be changed (not a big problem).

Am I overlooking something here? I also couldn't find a solution to import a specific category / manufacturer from ICECat.

Hello,
Your debug log says that you have not done the required settings in your template which is needed for ICECat import. Check the section "ENABLING ICECAT DATA" in the document i linked in my previous post. Once you enable ICECat in your template, you should be able to import ICECat data.

Sorry my fault .. :huh:
I recreated the template and forgot to enable that option. But I did now and nothing changes in the situation.

Can you tell me from which language of ICECat data you are trying to import? Can you go to Dashboard page, click on Options button and in ICECat tab what do you see? Can you send me the screenshot of those ICECat settings?

Hello,
You need to register for full access to the ICECat database to get the details of the product you are trying to import. These products are not available for the trail ICECat login version. You can see the page https://nl.icecat.biz/nl/p/apple/mlxq2cs-a/smartphones-Apple-iPhone-SE-31937235.html which says Register for full ICECat data.

Why do I see the details then?
There is a difference between seeing the data on the ICEcat website and actually downloading the data from the ICEcat database.

ICEcat offers two kinds of access, the free kind and the paid kind. The majority of users uses the free kind because it has most information they need.

For CSVI to be able to retrieve the data it needs 3 things, the product SKU, the manufacturer name and the access to the ICEcat database. Using the access to the ICEcat database CSVI will check if the manufacturer name exists and that the product SKU can be found for that manufacturer.

As your image shows, you need a full ICEcat account to get access to all the specifications.
