How do I link a template to a database other than the default Joomla database. My web site has a separate database that it uses (in addition to the Joomla built-in one) and I would like to be able to export queries from it.

I don't see any option for selecting a database.

Hello,
There is no option in CSVI to export from any external database other than the Joomla database. The option we have in CSVI is to export records from Joomla database table to external database table.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hello,

The only thing you could do, although a bit cumbersome, is to import the data from the external database to the Joomla database and then export from there. This will require 2 templates, one to import the data from the external database to the Joomla database and then another template that exports the data from the Joomla database.

Hello,

You won't see the fields in the list of available fields immediately but you need to create a template for Custom table export as explained in the Custom tables export. After that you will get the fields in the list of available fields when you update it.

Hello,

how do I add a button (or menu item) to my website to download the selected data?
Have a look at the Setting up a front-end template document which explains how to create the menu item.

For instance, I will display a query of data on the screen and I want to have a Download button so the user can download it in CSV format.
Once you have created menu items, you could create links to the menu items.
Kind regards,

Hello,

It would be useful to post your replies here so we can keep some context.

but the tables that I added to the Joomla database still do not show up on the Options screen
Did you create the tables with the Joomla prefix? The prefix is needed because CSVI prefixes all tables with the Joomla prefix as that is how the database queries are constructed.
Kind regards,

RolandD
