Hey Rolandd,

I am trying to change the product description at the moment with product_desc in Open Office. In the description the words with German Umlaute (ä,ö,ü etc) are not working (e.g. persönlich becomes persönlich). Although the German Umlaute are working in category_path perfectly.
Is there a way how I could use the Umlaute (ä,ü,ö etc.) in the product_desc as well?
cheers Julius

Hello Julius,

Check point 4 on the Troubleshooting import errors document. The file must be UTF-8 for it to work.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hey Rolandd,

I was following the trouble shooting steps with open office tutorial (http://www.csvimproved.com/en/?option=com_content&view=article&id=916:save-a-csv-file-as-utf-8&catid=22:questions-and-answers&Itemid=252) but my product_desc in the table did not change (e.g. persönlich becomes "persönlich";) This table is from the export not for importing. Does this make a difference? See the screenshots attached for my settings.

Hello Julius,

Looking at your screenshots, you have a mix of accented characters and HTML entities. In other words, it seems your descriptions already contain a mix of these two. The reason you see it normal on your site is because browsers know how to read HTML code and that is why you can't type it as normal text. As you noticed the browser will change it to the o umlaut.

There are 2 things you can do. First, leave it as it is. The other thing is that you do a find and replace in OpenOffice for the HTML entities and replace them with the correct accented characters and then import the updated descriptions.

You would do a find for
ö
and replace it with
ö
for the o umlaut and the others as well of course. After that save the file as UTF-8 and import it. For the browser it makes no difference.
Kind regards,

RolandD
