I am developing a dropshipping website and I would like to use CSVI to import data automatically.

I have the username and password of the folder where the company providing the products saves 4 times a day csv files with all the products in them..

One of these CSV files has the data I need.

I would like to get the following done by CSVI - automatically

1- Accessing the remote FTP folder
2- Importing the new products, changed prices, number of items in stock, new images, etc.
3- Updating the Virtumart tables.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

Is there a way to do this?
Yes, just set the source to FTP and make sure you fill in all the details. CSVI will retrieve the file from the FTP server before import.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Dear Roland,
I am trying to access the remote folder via FTP.
I have inserted all the data but I am not sure what to put in the field called "FTP Root Folder".
I have tested: www; /; root; http://www.icntracom.it, etc. But still I have an error message.
"FTP test not successful. Received error: FTP folder has not been found".
I have contacted the Admin of the server but he told me that he is accessing the ftp folder without any "root", see "ftp-access-admin-server.jpg".
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Fabio

Dear RolandD,
It seems that by putting "/" the error changes into "No files found in folder /".
This is good but... still it does not see the file in the folder.
Is there something I can do?
Sincerely
Fabio G for Ivano Michelutti

Hello Fabio,

I did some testing on a live server to your supplier server and I get the same error as you do. Now I have been unable to get any feedback from the server. No listing of files, trying to read the file, no go. Can your supplier check what may be missing from the request? Are they seeing your request?

Funny enough it works as you see on the screenshot from my local machine.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Dear Roland,
As you had the same problem importing from the server of ICIntracom I have contacted the webmaster.
He then contacted the webmaster of the server where the website is located and got the following reply.
"1) it could be that they cannot use FTP in passive mode from their server
2) can they provide the IP address at their side? Many people use that FTP server and we need to be able to easily identify them from the crowd."

I am checking if I can find more data about this "FTP Passive Mode"..

If you have any idea about this please let me know.

Thanks

Hello Fabio,

it could be that they cannot use FTP in passive mode from their server
That could be the case. Joomla tries to start passive mode where possible.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hello Fabio,

The passive FTP is not a setting in Joomla!, this is hardcoded into the core. Joomla tries to use passive mode if it is allowed, otherwise it won't use it. If you want to change that, you will need to hack the Joomla core but I don't think that is the solution you are looking for :)
Kind regards,

RolandD
