A few years ago this started out as an idea of what might be cool to do with Joomla, instead of LDAP use SAML to allow users to login to the Joomla website within a corporate environment. The standard package used for this is SimpleSAMLphp but this requires a lot of configuration through server files. The aim was to create a user-friendly interface to do the majority of these tasks to make it simple to maintain.
Over the past couple of years we have also been running this extension with selected customers and the results are great. Running stable for more than a year, now the time has come to go public and make it available to everybody. With RO Single Sign On you have complete control over your user data as it does not require any outside systems to run. You can be fully self-sufficient as both an Identity Provider and a Service Provider. If you wish to use the services of another Identity Provider that is possible as well. In that sense you are very flexible. You can run your intranet site with Joomla but your network with ADFS for example, users can be automatically logged-in into the intranet as soon as they login to their workstation.
This release is the initial public release and has the following features:
- Allows your Joomla site to login using a third party identity provider
- Allows you to run your own identity provider using Joomla
- Automatic login to the website
- Support multiple identity providers
- Supports multi-lingual sites
- Extendable by the use of plugin triggers
- Support for a consent system
- Easily maintable via the Joomla backend
- Automatic update of metadata by using a cronjob
The installation of the Joomla component is a straightforward upload of the package but the configuration of the Single Sign On requires knowledge of the system. We therefor strongly advice to contact us regarding on how to setup the system correct and secure. We can assist you all the way to ensure that it is up and running as you wish.
