Hello,
Is it possible to define where the resized product images will go, for each product category that we import? We want to do it in a way that survives a "reset thumbs" action by Virtuemart.
The problem in detail:
We have a website with 40k+ product, and the product images folder has too many files, which makes it slow to access with FTP.
We decided to separate future product images in subfolders (to the main path). So there will be many folders with fewer files, which is ideal.
Two ways of doing this.
-
For each import, set the final image path in the template. This has the added bonus that the resized image folder, will be created inside the subfolder! (but only for the initial import... if we do a reset thumbs from VM, I think the new thumbs will be created in the central 'resized' folder at the root?)
The drawback with this method is that we need to set the image path for each product category import, or just create a different import template for each product category (ouch) -
Set the image subfolder in the CSV, where the product images are defined. Each product image will be defined with the subfolder path.
This works for us but the main drawback is that the resized images will all be generated at the central resized folder by VM.
The good thing is that we only need a single template to import all product categories, with no tweaking.
So (2) is the preferred scenario, if we could solve the annoyoance that resized images cannot be also split into subfolders.
Hello,
Is it possible to define where the resized product images will go, for each product category that we import?
To a certain extend you can. Thumbnails are stored in the path you either specify in your import file or in the template settings on the Image tab. If no path is specified, it uses the default of images/stories/virtuemart/product/. The thumbnails are always stored in the subfolder resized underneath the path.
This works for us but the main drawback is that the resized images will all be generated at the central resized folder by VM.
I don't see that happen here. In my test case I have the file_url set to /shirts/shirt.png and the file_url_thumb to shirts/resized/shirt.png. In the template I set the image path to images/rocsvi/. This results in the main image being in images/rocsvi/shirts/shirt.png and the thumbnail in images/rocsvi/shirts/resized/shirt.png.
That is what you are trying to achieve or not?
Kind regards,

Thanks for the quick reply.
It seems to work correct after the import but... what happens then if you "reset thumbs" by Virtuemart? (Tools->Tools & Migration->DB Tools)
Last time I tried it (some time ago), there was a problem with the thumbs generation.
Hello,
Yes, resetting the thumbs empties the field for file_url_thumb but there is nothing RO CSVI can do about that. This is a VirtueMart function, not something we control. If you want to recreate the thumbnails, you could run an import to have RO CSVI create the thumbnails.
Kind regards,
