I have in my VM product name and & (ampersand) sign, for instance "3d & 5d".
During import this is changed to "& #38;" (the extra space is intentional otherwise editor is already changing it!) and stored in VM table.
Now my product name looks like "3d & #38; 5d" This is unwanted.
I upload my file as UTF without BOM. Characters like é and ë are all fine.
Any tips? Can I use escape characters?

Hello,
Does the product show as "3d & #38; 5d" in the frontend? Does it show normal when you edit it in VirtueMart? Which VirtueMart version are you using? There has been some changes in this area a while ago due to such characters like ampersand not being shown correctly. If you are interested, you can read up at this topic.

After import it shows "3d & #38; 5d" in front-end as well as in VM admin. If I override "3d & #38; 5d" with the real Ampersand, the name is saved correctly.
Using vm 3.0.10!

Hello,
I setup VM 3.0.10 and checked the import, it does indeed create a product name as

The "weird" code you see is not weird because it is the HTML code for ampersand. What I wonder is how VM stores the ampersand in your case.
Running a product export shows me the regular ampersand in the export, this is expected.

So I assume you are using regular vm script to import product name. The bug has to be within VM. There are post about this already on VM forum.

I am using the same method to encode the product name as VM does. At first I was not and that gave strange results, so I changed it to be the same as VM. That made it work in the other topic I linked.
