Is it possible to import categories from XML file to Virtuemart using the id instead the category name?

Hello Kostas,
Categories should be imported based on the category_path. The IDs are controlled by the database, it is highly discouraged to manage the IDs yourself as they are used throughout the system.

I will use the same id for categories (from an export) that the system uses.
I want to change some category paths.
The problem is that I don't know how to map an import template field with the category id from
<category id="1">PC</category>

I will use the same id for categories (from an export) that the system uses.
You just have to make sure that all cross-references in the system are OK as well. You can't just import and ID and that's it.
Also, you cannot use the ID value for new categories, only for existing ones.
Since this looks like an XML file, you need to use the path category/id. To be sure use the Analyzer in CSVI to get the correct path. The analyzer will tell you the path to use to get to that field.
