What is the basic steps to get a couple products imported into an empty virtuemart store. I am starting with a fresh install and need to import product into different categories. I am able to import and export but it seems like there are pieces of the puzzle missing. Obviously products need categories, prices, weights, images. so I need it all to work together to be a complete usable products list.

Hello,

Have a look at the import products with VirtueMart documentation to know the steps for product import.

Without your import debug log and import file, i cannot tell you what went wrong with your import. Do post it and i will have a look at it. To know on how to get debug log, check "Where to get the debug information?" section on top of this page.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

not saying anything went wrong, I dont understand the process. I dont see a categoryID in the products data, nor do I see a productsID, does the ID get generated when the import occurs, or do we need to include that ID number in the product excel file. I also do not see a field for price or pictures, Are those all separate databases, if so how do you link them all up when the ID numbers are not being entered?

i think I may have figured out why I was not seeing ID's in the field options. there is a button i needed to click to allow the fields to show.

Hello,

The button is there because we don't recommend using ID fields unless you really know what you are doing. You should be using the category_path if you want to import categories.

Ok, so lets say I have a store with no categories currently. I run the import and it does not create the categories for me?

is the category_path the same as ID... or is it the root path?

Hello

The reason it doesn't create the categories for you is because you are using the virtuemart_category_id field. As mentioned in my previous post, the category_path should be used. This is also explained in the Import VirtueMart categories document.

CSVI needs the category structure to know what goes where. Give it a try with the category_path and drop the virtuemart_category_id and you should be getting some imported categories.
Kind regards,

RolandD
