I have the same problem (Joomla 5.2.6, RO-CSVI 8.12.1, same with 8.17)
Is there any other possibility than reinstall the whole Component and database?

So I moved your question to it's own topic as the other one is over 2 years old.
What happens when you add a field to the template? Any error or what happens?
One thing you can try is to go to the About page and click Verify Database, that should fix any database inconsistencies that you may have. Did you do an update from an ancient RO CSVI version?
Worst case would be to make a backup of the template, then do a clean installation and then restore the template. You can try the Verify Database first.

Hi Roland,
I have the problem with each new field - for old templates and new templates
I can't save a new field because of the following error:
Speichern fehlgeschlagen. Fehler: Field 'plugin' doesn't have a default value
I can change an existing fieldt - for expample changing the column header
I already tried to verify Database -> no change

Hi Norbert,
The Verify database, cannot fix all problems so it was worth a try. Looking at the current database schema, the only table using a field called plugin is the rules table. This field indeed does not have a default value because it needs to know which plugin to run. Do your template fields have any rules? If so, remove them and see if you can add/modify any fields. Other thing you can do is also check the database tables starting with csvi_ and see if you have any other table that has a field called plugin. If so, that field can be removed, the plugins table should be the only one with such a field.

I altered the table -> now it works!
