A strange thing happens:

When I try to add a new field to template, I get a pop-up box stating:
"Oops something went wrong.

Let me try to show the warning below here. If nothing shows up then I didn't get any data, sometimes this is caused by faulty plugins.

Cancel the import and check if all settings are correct and try the import again."

and the field list has not been updated with the added field - or so I thought: If I go again to process area, and select same template, it does show up.
But then, if I delete some field from there, I get an pop-up with error:
"SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected end of data at line 2 column 5 of the JSON data"

Yet, again, if I go again to process area and load that template, the deleted fields is gone. So I get the errors and nothing updates visually, unless I go to load same template again.

The component has been working OK before at same site. However, recently I had to remake whole site building due to template issues. Since I did not want to make templates again, I followed procedure mentioned in another thread (http://www.csvimproved.com/en/forum?view=topic&catid=24&id=32007) and copied the csvi tables and installed CSVI improved over that. I guess that is someway giving the problem since I also have double the example templates.

Update: It was not about the double templates.. I reinstalled again since I was so in beginning, this time doing fresh install of CSVI Pro and starting to modify the templates from scratch. But gives me same errors.. Could it be Joomla 3.4.0 related? Older one had 3.3.6. and there was not that ptoblem,

Hello,

That is a very curious error to get beause it should only show up when running an import.

But then, if I delete some field from there, I get an pop-up with error:
"SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected end of data at line 2 column 5 of the JSON data"
That makes more sense than you would actually think. Any issue with the template fields is almost always the result of a problem with AJAX requests.

There are numerous extensions out there that mess with AJAX requests when they shouldn't. If you can follow the first 4 steps of the Using Firebug to analyze import problems document and then as step 5 try to add a field to your template. When the error is there you can continue at step 7. Let's see what that tells us.

Hi,

I tried that, but got nothing in response tab. In Post tab, I have:
cids 76,77,78,79
format json
option com_csvi
task templatefield.deletetemplatefield
Source
option=com_csvi&task=templatefield.deletetemplatefield&format=json&cids=76,77,78,79

This came as I loaded example category template and tried to delete all but category_path -field.

Then, when trying to add virtuemart_category_id, I got:
column_header
default_value
field_name virtuemart_category_id
file_field_name
format json
option com_csvi
process 1
sort undefined
task templatefield.storetemplatefield
template_id 11
Source
option=com_csvi&task=templatefield.storetemplatefield&format=json&template_id=11&field_name=virtuemart_category_id&file_field_name=&column_header=&default_value=&process=1&sort=undefined

Again, response tab empty and those are from post tab. (but with same errors both cases still)

I do not know if it helps, but PHP version used there is 5.3.8.I tried that again after updating to 5.4.38 but that did not help the issue. Joomla is 3.4.0 and Virtuemart is 3.0.6

Hello,

Regardless of this issue, it would be good to use PHP 5.4.38 because not only is 5.3.8 out of support, the minimum requirement for Joomla 3.4 is PHP 5.3.10 (Joomla Technical Requirements).

Source
option=com_csvi&task=templatefield.storetemplatefield&format=json&template_id=11&field_name=virtuemart_category_id&file_field_name=&column_header=&default_value=&process=1&sort=undefined
That actually looks as it is supposed to be looking.

Do you get the same error in another browser? The reason I am asking is because that popup should never come if you are not doing an import because that code is simply not there on the process page. I wonder if it has anything to do with caching.

Hi,

Actually import is what I am going to do, but I those erros come beforfe the import process, they come when modifying the fields that would be included when processing.

I tried that with (erros come at Firefox) IE 11, but the stranges thing happen: there I cannot even load the examples to begin modifying them: When selecting the template and selectin gOpen button, nothing comes up. The reason seems to be that in address bar there is "&template_id=" so no number for template id, while in firefox there is. I do not know if they relate to same issue here..

Hello,

Something seems to be interfering/broken with your installation. The &template_id= should be filled by what you have chosen from the dropdown. Send me a PM with login details and URL to the site and I will take a look.

So I took a look at the issue and the problem is that the server doesn't give any response, that is why you get this weird behavior. The request is sent to CSVI and processed but the response is never returned,so CSVI can't process the response. Refreshing the page works because it is not a JSON request.

I saw you are using Litespeed as webserver rather than Apache/Nginx, perhaps it is something to do with that?

Hello,

If you go to System Information, does it say Litespeed as Web Server? If so, there seems to be a problem with that type of server, it doesn't return the response of CSVI.

That is problematic because CSVI can't work without JSON.

I am using Xampp software.
Apache/2.4.7 (Win32) OpenSSL/1.0.1e PHP/5.5.6

Json is enabled
Version 1.2.1

When i try to add a field i get the following message:

Oops something went wrong.
Let me try to show the warning below here. If nothing shows up then I didn't get any data, sometimes this is caused by faulty plugins.
Cancel the import and check if all settings are correct and try the import again.

After saving the template i can see the field was added despite the eroor message
but when altering that field ( delete, unbuplish ect) i get

JSON.parse: unexpected end of data at line 2 column 5 of the JSON data

Hello,

The same error is reported in this topic. So I will merge these 2 topics.

I wonder why it is suddenly a problem now, this code hasn't changed for the past few years.

Your PHP version is also different from the other topic. With CSVI 5.2 I assume you mean 5.20 because 5.2 is an older release.

If possible can you check if you have the same problem on Joomla 3.3.6?

Thank you for the feedback, I will try to get this reproduced as well. On my own Joomla 3.4.0 installation I have had no problems, this would be an obvious one of course.

Since I cannot reproduce this on Joomla 3.4.0, could you make me an Akeeba Backup that I can download and try it on? Thank you.

Hello Seppo,

Thanks for the Akeeba Backup, I have downloaded it and will test it locally to see if the problem still appears.

Hello Seppo,

The Akeeba Backup has proved useful, there is a plugin that messes up the CSVI request. This is the vmVendor system plugin. Turning this plugin off makes CSVI work as expected.

So you will have to turn this plugin off if you want to work with CSVI.

@Topdaken, do you happen to have the same plugin installed on your site? If not, do check if you turn off non-Joomla default plugins if the error still comes.
