Hi Roland,

I know there are some filtering settings available during export of various templates, but it would be nice to be able to further filter some fields based on specific values during the process.

A common example could be exporting the VM users waiting list. We'd like to export for example only the values with notified=0 because this is what matters. However currently, we have to export all the values, even the ones with notified=1 which is a bit of a problem, especially if you have a lot of data.

I really think that such a functionality would add even more value to the export function, let me know if you have considered this!

Hello Chris,

Sure, that is why more and more filters are appearing :)

Understandable, added that to the todo list as well :)

If you have any more filters you would like, let me know and I can see if they can be included or not.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Thanks Roland :)

To clarify my suggestion 100%, the revolutionary thing would be for the user to define the filtering fields and the corresponding values, so that you don't have to hardcode them. In this way, user could filter his own custom fields.

For example we have another case:

We are running an affiliate program and we have added a tickbox in VM user fields. So any user can tick it when registering or ,for existing users, when they visit account maintenance.

We need to have a way to monitor these users, i.e. the ones that have applied for becoming affiliates, so we are running a cron job every couple of days to check the list. It would be great to have the option to filter the (custom field) affiliate_program = 1

As this is not possible, we have to export all users every time, it's not very efficient.

So this is the concept :)

Hello Chris,

I can follow you all the way. While it would be great to have such feature, I will need quite some time to see how to make this happen technically and usable.

As you can see now that quite a few filters have all different kind of characteristics. It probably would have to take the shape of how the rules are implemented. Each filter would be a plugin with it's own characteristics. Not sure if that would be a better way to go instead of just adding filters :)

User-defined fields is another thing, that is a flexible option of which we don't know yet what the field is named beforehand.

Even if all that is done, the difficultly lies in creating the correct query to get all the data out of the database. Preferably without loading all the data into memory which will result in out of memory issues :)

It's a minefield we are walking on but certainly food for thought.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Correct, just food for thought for the next major versions of CSVI and where it could go :)

Let's stick to the traditional way for now ;)
