Hi,

I try to export sample products with different custom fields to learn how to setup the import.
I am using excel to view the files. Unfortunately the file shows the custom fields not correct.
Can you please give me some hint what I have to do to sort the files accordingly? Is Excel good or are there better tools to work with?
Thanks in advance.
BR, Daniel

Hello Daniel,
First thing i would like to mention is about the fields in export file. I see that you have added all of them and tried to do a export. It would be good if the export fields are limited to the requirements.

Can you explain what is wrong with the custom fields in the export file?
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hi Tharuna,
I think Excel is not the best software to work with csv files. It worked in the past quite well but if I use cutom fields it will show not usable data (attachment). Due to that I asked for a different software or to change some settings...
Thanks, Daniel

Hello Daniel,
You can use Excel which is good to work with CSV files. From you screenshot, it seems like you are trying to export Multi variant custom fields. You dont need to export custom_title, custom_params, custom_ordering for Multi variant, they are not needed.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hi Tharuna,
I have a new problem. I try to import multi variants but it will not work.
According the instruction at "https://www.csvimproved.com/support/import/203-virtuemart/1064-importing-multi-variant-custom-field" I created the multi variant.
I tried several different files unfortunately it is never created correctly.
I have made some screenshots and you can easily see what I want to do.
Also I have attached my csv file. The main problem I think is that I do not know what I have to put in the fields multi_variant_title and multi_variant_fields.
May I ask for assistance?
Thanks, Daniel

Hello Daniel,

The main problem I think is that I do not know what I have to put in the fields multi_variant_title and multi_variant_fields.
That is a problem indeed because if you leave them empty, nothing will happen.

The multi_variant_title field needs to be filled with the name of your custom field. In your case "Wählen Sie die Optionen aus". The multi_variant_fields are the ramifications you want to use, in your case that is Größe. You only need to set this for the parent product. The child products get the actual values.

The parent product is also missing from your CSV file, so you will need to add that as well.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hi Roland,

unfortunately it does not work this way.
Attached you will find a screenshot, csv and the log.
The csv file opens a multi variant but without data...

Thanks in advance, Daniel

Hello Daniel,
There is an issue in your CSV file, the product_parent_sku is wrong in the third row where product data are given. Also, the multi_variant_field and multi_variant_title should be given only for the product parent row, you can remove it from child product row. Please look into the section "Prepare the csv file" in Import multi variant custom field document to know more on this.

Multi variant is a special import, the import has to be done twice as explained in the documentation. The first time custom fields are stored and the second time data is imported into the custom fields. Try importing after correcting the csv file and let me know how it goes.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

Hi,

I tried to import not only a test product and get for each variant a new product in the frontend.
I have no glue how to avoid that???
Thanks in advance, Daniel

Hey Daniel,

Are you sure that is not related to your template? The CSV file, debug log and screenshots all look good.
Kind regards,

Hi Roland,
Definately not. I can create a product in VM manually and it looks fine in the frontend. Only if I import it by csvi it will create for each variation an own product in the frontend...
I have no idea anymore what to do!

Hello Daniel,

Well I did spot a problem in your file, having taken another look. The column name Größe is wrong and must be Bitte wählen because Größe is the name of the custom field, not the name of the ramification.

The issue with the child products I found as well. You have set categories on the child products and that is why VM is showing them. Remove the value for the category on the child products and they won't appear.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hi Roland,

The column names have been correct. The issue was not to set a path to categories for child products.
Great - now it works :-)
Thousand thanks!
Best regards, Daniel
