I've installed CSVI a month back but now I notice that the URL for every new article on my site has "com-csvi-maintenance" stuffed in the middle of it - e.g. http://www.oups.org.uk/com-csvi-maintenance/oups-branded-clothing !!

I'd *really* love to get rid of this - it seems like a CSVI bug (incorrect routing) ?

I've tried a number of things, including this morning the DISASTROUS step of uninstalling CSVI, which took half of my site with it !! In particular it removed all the administrator menu items for Virtuemart, resulting in a very worried shop administrator (and an even more worried me - thank God for backups !!)

Not impressed so far, any help as to how to sort out the URL problem would be great.

Thanks,

David

Hello David,

Glad to see you blame CSVI for something it has nothing to do with. First of all, CSVI doesn't do any routing? Why should it, it is only a backend component and doesn't deal with the frontend. Second, CSVI doesn't create the backend menus as this is done by the Joomla installer nor does CSVI remove it's menu entries as this is also done by the Joomla installer.

For something that you installed a month ago and is now giving you problems, I wonder how you concluded it is CSVI trying to destroy your site?

Despite all the blame and it not being the fault of CSVI, we have actually fixed the issue. In the current release 6.5.7, if you go to the About page, there is a button there called Fix menu. This will fix the menu structure and put everything back into place as it should be.

After that you will still need to resave the menu entries that have com-csvi-x in it, so Joomla stores the correct path.

What is the root cause here? The menu table is corrupt and as such Joomla isn't sure what belongs to whom. In addition to that, Joomla doesn't check when building a URL whether part of the URL belongs to the frontend or backend but just throws it all together resulting in the odd URL you get.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hi Roland,

First of all let me say thanks for your super-fast reply, that's great support ! And even better - you have a fix for my problem, couldn't ask for better :) Your explanation makes perfect sense and I'm delighted that this problem can be fixed and that I can continue to use CSVI on our site too.

However in answer to your question "For something that you installed a month ago and is now giving you problems, I wonder how you concluded it is CSVI trying to destroy your site?" let me explain:

1. The problem didn't exist;
2. I installed CSVI
3. The problem existed.

Ehhh... that was about it  So I think it's fair to conclude that CSVI had *something* to do with it, even if it triggered some obscure bug in Joomla or whatever. I'm perfectly happy to accept that it's nothing in CSVI, but I have to say I haven't seen this happen before with other components. Of course it's possible that it's a Joomla bug, no question

I didn't report it because it was more of a minor irritation (only applied to newly added pages) than a serious problem, but again, while I'm perfectly happy to accept that the Joomla installer was responsible for wiping out half my menu items and not CSVI, I haven't seen this behaviour before with other components.

Anyway, thanks again for your great support and for what truly does look like an exceptional product, though I'm a mere CSVI beginner. I'm looking forward to getting to grips with it as I go along.

All the best,

David

Hello David,

Ehhh... that was about it
Just the time period of 1 month between point 2 and 3 got me wondering ;)

Sure, I understand from your perspective it is annoying as can be when it happens. Reality is also that I have no idea why the menu structure is botched after the install as I can't reproduce it and only a few people have this issue.

Between you and me it is just bad luck to be the chosen ones :silly:

Feel free to post any issues you have and we will gladly assist you.
Kind regards,

RolandD
