Upcoming RO CSVI 9

The time has come for us to look forward and we are eyeing the release of RO CSVI 9. This is going to be a new major release in the history of RO CSVI since November 2021. A new major release also means major changes, these changes will come but mostly under the surface of what you see.

Joomla 3/4 support

One of the major changes is that we will cease to support Joomla 3/4 from version 9. In October of 2025 Joomla will release version 6 while version 4 will be end of life. Now Joomla 3 has been end of life for quite some time but we have continued support due to many users still using Joomla 3. Keeping things running on so many major versions of both Joomla and PHP is challenging. While we will drop support for Joomla 3 in RO CSVI 9 and onwards, you can still use RO CSVI 8 for Joomla 3. We believe this is a very mature product that can help many users to maintain their website as-is. There is not going to be anymore development for Joomla 3 but we will give support for those who are still running RO CSVI 8.

Joomla 5/6 support

Currently RO CSVI already runs on Joomla 5 and 6 so we do not need to make any more changes to make it run. We will however update the codebase step by step and bring it up to speed with the new technologies. Anything Joomla 3/4 related will be removed from the codebase. Joomla 6 is currently in alpha state so we continue testing the new RO CSVI against the newer versions that come out to make sure it runs smoothly when Joomla 6 is released in October. Making this move will also allow us to be sure you can run RO CSVI without the backwards compatibility plugin.

Extension support

With the release of RO CSVI 9 we will also be dropping a number of extensions from our supported extension list. These should not be extensions many of you are using anymore simply because they are no longer maintained and are not available for the newer Joomla versions.

PHP 8 support

The new RO CSVI version will also start making use of the new PHP 8.2 and newer features. This will allow us to build even more robust code and hopefully less bugs cool.

Release date

A definite release date has not been set yet but it will certainly be September 2025, so that is another 3 months to go. Until that time we will be releasing RO CSVI 8 every month with updates and fixes as we have done so far this year.
