RO CSVI 9.0.0 release
Today is the day that we welcome the RO CSVI 9.0.0 release. We are shedding our old skin but not too fast. As a user you will not see many changes if any while using RO CSVI but under the hood we have started cleaning up already. Each release we work toward a more modern codebase.
Minimum requirements
This release has given us the opportunity to also increase the minimum requirements and allow us to use new features of Joomla. The minimum requirements are now:
- PHP 8.2
- Joomla 5
Visuals
The most noticeable for users will be that we cleaned out all the old Joomla 3 CSS classes and replaced them with the new Joomla 5 CSS classes. This turns the dropdowns into fancy select lists, so they are easier to use for when you have longer lists.
Dropped extensions
Some old extensions have been removed, to be exact these are:
- Form2Content
- K2
- Productbuilder
These are extensions that do not run on Joomla 5 or newer and as such are no longer relevant.
Cron jobs
With this release the old cron jobs using the helper/cron.php are no longer usable and have been permanently replaced by the Joomla CLI.
I'm Mac
This option has been around since the early days of RO CSVi but has now been removed as it is deprecated in PHP 8.1 and was used for the Classic Mac OS system which has been discontinued in 2001.
Joomla 6 beta 3
We have tested this release on Joomla 6 beta 3 as well to keep up-to-date with the upcoming changes.
Download ID
As of this release RO CSVI no longer manages it's own download ID setting. Download IDs are now to be entered in the Update Sites of Joomla. By editing an update site you can enter the download key and that will be used for downloading the updates.
