Hello,
When I use the example export template, will this also export child products or will it only export parent products?

RO CSVI will export both parent and child products. Our example template has only few main fields. You need to add the other needed fields to the export template.

if I understand it clearly, before I can import the products on the new website, I need to make the categories first, so csvi can put the product imports in the right category as well.

In your export template, add category_path field. This will export categories of a product. When you run import on new site, RO CSVI will create these categories and assign them to the product.

and after the product import. .. I need to export product images and upload this on the new website..

For images you can use file_url field to export template.

Clearly I need to manuallyy upload all the images trough ftp on the new website. ( right? )

There are two ways of handling images.
1. If your old site is still live, you can add picture_url field to export template. This will export images as links. In your import template, you can import these images as external links. For that in your import template on Image tab you can set Save images on server to Yes. RO CSVI will automatically download the images from your old site and save them to your new site.
2. Second option is to upload the images to the needed location on new site manually. On old site in export template, add file_url field, export images as local path. When running import on new site, RO CSVI will find the images in the location in file_url field and link them to product. You can take a look at Import VirtueMart Images document to know about import with images.
Kind regards,

Tharuna

If Size and Color are of String custom field type then you can add them like any other template field. Go to RO CSVI Template fields page, select your export template, click New button and search for Size and Color and add them. You can also use Quick add button to add these fields. If you do not see these fields in the list, then Update your available fields.
Kind regards,
